Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 cups cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Fresh thyme leaves, for garnish

Directions

Step 1: Sauté the Mushrooms and Onions
Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 5-7 minutes until they start to caramelize. Add the mushrooms, salt, and black pepper, and cook until the mushrooms are tender and golden. Stir in balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the Puff Pastry
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Score a 1-inch border around the edges of the pastry, being careful not to cut all the way through. This will help create a crispy edge.

Step 3: Assemble the Tart
Spread the mushroom and onion mixture evenly over the puff pastry, keeping it inside the scored border. Sprinkle Gruyere cheese over the top, ensuring an even layer for a rich and cheesy finish.

Step 4: Bake and Serve
Bake the tart for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let it cool slightly, then sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves for a burst of flavor. Slice and serve warm as a delicious appetizer.
